How do I Request Software?

Log a request with the helpdesk to request software. This request will be assigned to your system administrator. They will get in touch with you and set up a time to install your software. Include the node name and task number in the request for chargebacks.

What is an Enterprise Agreement (EA)?

An Enterprise Agreement is designed for customers that wish to implement enterprise wide standards to enhance business productivity.

How does this affect me as a PC User at Fermilab?

Under this agreement users will be able to have software installed in a streamlined process. You will not have to wait for an order to be processed as it was in the past.

If I order a new machine, should I order it with Microsoft applications?

New machines are to be ordered with the operating system (OS) only. The current Enterprise Agreement (EA) states that if you order your new machine with applications they cannot be entered into the Enterprise Agreement (EA).

You are on your own to repurchase the software should a new version be released.

Log a ticket with the helpdesk to order applications for your new machine.

What if I have a linux desktop now and I want to switch to windows?

Log a request with the helpdesk to request a new OS be installed. This request will be assigned to your system administrator. They will get in touch with you and set up a time to install your OS. Include the node name and task number in the request for chargebacks.

NOTE: Unlike apps, the OS must be "trued" up within 90 days of installation.

Can licenses be transferred from a PC to a Mac?

The licenses can be transferred as long as they are replacing the Wintel boxes that were covered under the EA.

Can OS’s and/or applications be transferred from machine to machine?

The OS may NOT be transferred from machine to machine. The OS lives/dies with the machine it was purchased for.

Applications may be transferred from machine to machine. For example—if you have an existing machine and will be excessing it, and you have Microsoft apps installed, you may deinstall the apps on the old machine and install them to your new machine.
